We are pleased to offer access for transportation to members in need through our community partnership with the Independent Transportation Network of Greater Cincinnati.
Established in the area by the Deaconess Associations Foundation and the Vision Coalition of Greater Cincinnati, Independent Transportation Network of Greater Cincinnati provides transportation to people who are over the age of 60, and to visually impaired people over the age of 18, to destinations within the I-275 loop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The average cost of a ride is $9, which includes a pick-up charge and a per mile cost.
The ITN services is "door through door" and "arm through arm," meaning that drivers walk passengers from their front doors through the doors of their destination. Drivers stow walkers, fold wheelchair (non-motorized) and even carry in groceries.
Participation in the program is by an annual membership fee from which the costs of the rides are deducted. Members receive a monthly statement that shows the balance in the account. They then deposit additional funds to the account to cover the costs of the rides anticipated in the coming month. That means no cash is ever exchanged between the rider and the driver, making the trip seem more like a ride with a friend rather than in a taxi.
"Road scholarships" are available for low-income riders.
As a community partner, the cathedral can offer rides at no cost to members of congregation to and from church (if scheduled by 6:00 p.m. the day prior). The cathedral's partnership also reduces the cost of the annual individual membership from $75 to $50 for members of the congregation to use for rides elsewhere in the city. In addition, members must maintain a $25 balance in a ridership account.
